In a new interview with Rolling Stone, singer Lorde shared her thoughts about her gender identity. She explained that sometimes she feels like a woman and other times like a man. The opening song on her upcoming album Virgin includes the lyrics: “Some days I’m a woman / Some days I’m a man.”

Lorde said her friend Chappell Roan asked if she is nonbinary. Lorde replied, “I’m a woman except for the days when I’m a man.” She said she does not want to put a strict label on her identity.

Even though she still calls herself a cis woman and uses the same pronouns, Lorde feels she is “in the middle gender-wise.” She likes to express herself in a flexible way.

Lorde also talked about feeling more like her teenage self. When she was younger, she mostly spent time with boys and dressed and acted more freely.

In 2023, she tried on men’s jeans and sent a picture to her music producer, Jim-E Stack. He told her to “represent the you that’s in this picture in the music.” This helped her explore her gender identity more deeply.

Lorde’s album Virgin will be released on June 27, 2025. She will go on a world tour after the album comes out.
