Amazon Prime Video has unveiled the first teaser trailer for its highly anticipated live-action adaptation of the iconic Yakuza video game series, titled “Like a Dragon: Yakuza”. The series, set to debut on October 24, 2024, will bring the beloved characters and gritty storylines of the Yakuza franchise to life on the small screen.
The teaser trailer, revealed during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con, offers fans a glimpse of the series’ stunning visuals and action-packed sequences. It showcases the lead actor Ryoma Takeuchi as Kazuma Kiryu, the main protagonist of the Yakuza games, and Kento Kaku as Akira Nishikiyama, Kiryu’s sworn brother.
The series, directed by the acclaimed Masaharu Take, will span across 1995 and 2005, following the lives of Kiryu and his friends, and the consequences of his decisions as a fearsome Yakuza warrior with a strong sense of justice. The story is set in the iconic Kamurocho district, a staple of the Yakuza games.
The panel also featured a special video message from Masayoshi Yokoyama, the executive producer at RYU GA GOTOKU Studio in Japan, who shared insights into the creation of the original SEGA video game series.
