Snoop Dogg Biopic Set for 2027 Release with Jonathan Daviss in Lead Role

A biographical film about rapper Snoop Dogg is set to be released in cinemas next summer, with actor Jonathan Daviss cast in the lead role.

The film, titled Snoop, is scheduled for release on August 6, 2027, and is being produced by Universal Pictures. Producers have described it as the “definitive biopic” of the artist, though it is not yet clear whether it will cover his entire life or focus on a specific period.

Born Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. in Long Beach, California, Snoop Dogg rose to fame in the early 1990s. His debut album Doggystyle (1993), produced by Dr. Dre, helped establish him as a major figure in West Coast hip-hop. He has since released more than 20 studio albums and received 17 Grammy nominations.

Over the years, Snoop Dogg has expanded his career beyond music. He has appeared in films and television, worked as a commentator at major events including the Olympic Games, and built a wide range of business ventures. These include ownership of the Death Row Records brand and the launch of his own production company, Death Row Pictures. His businesses span industries such as food and beverages, pet products and cannabis.

Despite his success, his early life included legal challenges. As a teenager, he was associated with a Los Angeles gang and was later convicted on drug-related charges. In 1996, he was acquitted in a high-profile murder case. He also faced other legal issues in the following years, including weapons charges, which resulted in probation and community service.

This will not be the first time Snoop Dogg has been portrayed in film. Actor LaKeith Stanfield played him in the 2015 film Straight Outta Compton, which told the story of the rap group N.W.A.

The upcoming biopic is expected to draw on Snoop Dogg’s extensive music catalogue as part of a deal between his production company and NBCUniversal Entertainment.
