Fresh off his appearance at The Grammys, The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye) is stepping into the world of horror films. He stars in Lionsgate’s upcoming psychological thriller, “Hurry Up Tomorrow,” alongside Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan.

The film will hit theaters on May 16, 2025 and features new music from The Weeknd, including songs from his latest album of the same name.

    A Mind-Bending Story

Directed by Trey Edward Shults (It Comes at Night), Hurry Up Tomorrow follows a musician struggling with insomnia who meets a stranger (played by Jenna Ortega). Their encounter leads him on a surreal journey that challenges his sanity and sense of self.

Shults describes the movie as a mix of psychological thriller and drama, focusing on an artist on the brink of a mental breakdown. Ortega calls it an “experimental telling” of an artist’s struggle with change, fear, and creative blocks.

    The Weeknd’s Big-Screen Debut

Although The Weeknd has appeared in Uncut Gems and HBO’s The Idol, Hurry Up Tomorrow marks his first leading role in a major feature film. The singer also co-wrote the screenplay alongside Shults and Reza Fahim.

With a unique blend of music and horror, Hurry Up Tomorrow is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing films of 2025.

Whether The Weeknd’s massive fanbase will translate to box office success remains to be seen when the film arrives exclusively in theaters on May 16, 2025.
