The hit HBO Max comedy Hacks is officially coming back for a fifth season. The show’s stars, Jean Smart as Deborah Vance and Hannah Einbinder as Ava, will return to continue their story. However, there is a chance Season 5 will be the last.
Season 4 followed Deborah as she finally got her dream late-night talk show. Her working relationship with Ava was rocky, especially after Deborah’s betrayal.

HBO Max announced Season 5 the same day Season 4 ended. The show’s creators say five seasons were always planned, and Season 5 may wrap up the story. Jean Smart said she would be surprised if the show did not return, but filming won’t start soon because she will be busy on Broadway this summer.
Past seasons of Hacks have taken time between releases. The first season premiered in May 2021, and the third season only arrived in May 2024. Fans can expect a wait before Season 5 airs.
