French Horror Series ‘Marianne’ Gets Mysterious Revival on Netflix

The French horror series ‘Marianne’ has mysteriously resurged on Netflix, earning a perfect 100% Rotten Tomatoes critic score despite being released—and cancelled—five years ago.

    A Sudden Comeback

Originally released in September 2019, Marianne follows a horror writer returning to her hometown, only to find the evil spirit from her nightmares haunting reality.

The show received praise, including an endorsement from Stephen King, who called it a mix of Stranger Things and his own style of horror.

    What’s Causing the Hype?

Despite being cancelled after just one season, the series has suddenly topped Netflix’s “popular TV” list.

There’s no clear reason for the resurgence, though King’s old quote has been widely shared again as if it were new.

    A Forgotten Classic?

Critics gave Marianne glowing reviews, and it holds an 85% audience score, but many viewers—including journalist Paul Tassi—admit they barely remember watching it.

With no official revival in sight, the sudden surge in popularity remains a mystery. Whether it’s a hidden gem rediscovered or just a social media echo chamber at work, horror fans might want to check it out while it’s back in the spotlight.
