Daredevil: Born Again Overhaul Explained by Showrunner and Charlie Cox

Daredevil: Born Again has faced some big changes during production. The show, which brings back Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) to the MCU, was reworked after filming had already started. The reason? It wasn’t in line with what Daredevil had been established to be.

Production Halts and New Leadership

Filming for Daredevil: Born Again began in 2023 but was delayed by the writing and acting strikes. When production resumed, Marvel made a big decision.

They replaced the original writers, Matt Corman and Chris Ord, with Dario Scardapane, known for his work on The Punisher.

Reworking the Show’s Direction

In an interview with SFX magazine, Scardapane explained the decision to overhaul the series. He said, “The footage had some really strong points, but it wasn’t feeling in line with what Daredevil had been established to be.”

Scardapane and Marvel decided to connect Daredevil: Born Again to the MCU. They filmed a new pilot to bridge the gap between the original Netflix show and the new series.

This also allowed them to bring back the original cast, including Karen Page and Foggy Nelson.

A Fresh Start for New and Old Fans

Scardapane also emphasized that viewers wouldn’t need to have seen the original Netflix show to understand Born Again.

He said, “At the very end of the Netflix show, Foggy, Karen, and Matt had a dream written out on the back of a napkin. We start with that dream.”

Charlie Cox Talks About the Change

Charlie Cox, who plays Matt Murdock, also shared his thoughts. He said, “There was a U-turn after the strike.

Marvel looked at the episodes and knew it wasn’t quite working. We shot a whole new pilot and they reorganized what we had filmed.”

Cox praised the team’s effort to make the show feel more like the original Daredevil series, calling it a “Herculean task.”

When Can You Watch It?

Daredevil: Born Again will release on March 4, 2025, in the US and March 5, 2025, in the UK. Fans can expect a fresh take on the character, with connections to the MCU and the return of familiar faces.
