Apple TV+ Bets Big on Movies Again with Star-Studded Releases

Apple TV+ is making a strong comeback in movies after facing some challenges last year. While the platform has been successful with TV shows, its movie releases struggled for a time.

Apple’s earlier films, like the Oscar-winning CODA, were praised, but recent big theatrical pushes for movies such as Argylle and Napoleon did not perform well.

In response, Apple changed its approach. Instead of wide theatrical releases, it started premiering films directly on Apple TV+. This strategy worked well with Wolfs, which became Apple TV+’s most viewed movie ever, and The Gorge, which also performed strongly.

Looking ahead, Apple TV+ has several new movies lined up. On May 23, Fountain of Youth, an action-adventure film by Guy Ritchie starring John Krasinski and Natalie Portman, will debut on the platform.

In June, Echo Valley, a thriller featuring Julianne Moore and Sydney Sweeney, will premiere on streaming, while F1, directed by Joseph Kosinski, will launch in theaters on June 27 with a major IMAX push before coming to Apple TV+.

Later this summer, Highest 2 Lowest will reunite Denzel Washington and Spike Lee in a modern crime thriller. It will have a brief theatrical run before arriving on Apple TV+ on September 5.

Apple TV+ is currently priced at $9.99 per month and offers popular shows like Ted Lasso and Severance. With its new movie strategy focusing on streaming premieres and select theatrical releases, Apple TV+ seems ready to strengthen its position in the movie market.
