Young Thug and Mariah The Scientist have been together since 2021, but the rapper says their first date didn’t go as planned.
In a fun interview with GQ for the Couples Quiz series, the couple joked about their early days and shared different versions of what happened on date one.
Thug claimed that Mariah stood him up. “I don’t know what you wore on the first date ’cause you stood me up,” he said. Mariah quickly fired back, saying, “No I did not!”
They continued teasing each other over what she wore on their first official date. Thug insisted she wore black, but Mariah disagreed, saying it was an all-white event. “I had on white and some jeans,” she said. “Zero points.”
The couple’s chemistry and playful arguing won fans over, giving a rare look into their relationship. Mariah previously mentioned in a Complex interview that Thug was “more of a player” when they first met but said she loves him deeply.
Meanwhile, Young Thug is preparing to release his new album, UY Scuti, which will feature appearances from Future, Travis Scott, 21 Savage, and Mariah herself. The album follows his legal troubles in the YSL RICO case, and the first single, “Money on Money,” dropped in April.
Thug explained that the title UY Scuti, named after a massive red star, reflects how big he feels right now. “I feel like I’m one of the biggest stars,” he told GQ.
Despite a rocky start, it’s clear Thug and Mariah’s relationship is still going strong — and they’re having fun telling their story.
