Xiaomi XRING Aims to Compete with Huawei’s HiSilicon

Xiaomi is taking a bold step into the semiconductor industry with its new initiative, XRING.

The company has launched Shanghai Xuanjie Technology, a subsidiary of X-Ring Limited, to design and develop its own System on Chips (SoCs), following in the footsteps of Huawei’s successful HiSilicon Kirin brand.

Xiaomi has already made moves in chip development with its Pinecone subsidiary, which created in-house Image Signal Processors (ISPs).

However, XRING represents a leap forward, aiming to produce full-fledged SoCs. These chips could power a range of Xiaomi devices, from smartphones to smart home products, creating a more integrated ecosystem.

The XRING SoC could give Xiaomi greater control over hardware and software optimization, especially with its HyperOS, and reduce its reliance on external suppliers like Qualcomm and MediaTek.

This move not only positions Xiaomi as a competitor to major chipmakers but also offers strategic advantages in a highly competitive and supply chain-stressed market.

With the backing of Zeng Xuezhong, Senior VP of Xiaomi, leading Shanghai Xuanjie Technology, XRING could become a game-changer in the semiconductor world, much like Huawei’s Kirin chips.

If successful, it would mark a new chapter for Xiaomi, transforming it from a device maker into a key player in the semiconductor industry.
