Actress Aimee Lou Wood is sharing her positive experience filming intimate scenes for HBO’s “The White Lotus” while reflecting on unnecessary nude scenes from her past work.
Aimee, who appears in Season 3 of “The White Lotus” as Chelsea opposite Walton Goggins, told Elle magazine that she felt fully supported during the filming of their intimate scenes.
“I love intimacy coordinators, and I think they’re absolutely essential,” Wood said. She explained that she and Goggins “designed” their characters’ intimate scenes together with help from intimacy coordinator Miriam Lucia.
For the first time in her career, Wood was allowed to view and approve her sex scenes after filming. She recalled Lucia telling her, “I just want you to watch it. And I want you to know that if you are not happy, we can change it.”
The actress also revealed that series creator Mike White offered to cut parts of the scene if she felt uncomfortable.
Looking back at her time on Netflix’s “Sex Education,” where she played Aimee Gibbs from 2019 to 2023, Wood admitted she often agreed to unnecessary nude scenes despite being well “looked after” on the series.
“I was young and I was so looked after, but I think I was very much just like, ‘Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah!'” she explained. “And now, I’m more like, ‘Do we need this? Is there a way to tell this story with just a look or just a kiss?'”
Wood’s comments have sparked renewed discussion about the importance of intimacy coordinators. Many online supporters argue that her experience shows why these professionals are essential on set, particularly for younger actors who might feel pressure to agree to nudity.
