In the upcoming Netflix action-comedy Back in Action, Cameron Diaz makes her return to the big screen after a decade-long hiatus. Joining her is Jamie Foxx, and together, they portray a suburban couple who must confront their past as secret agents.
The film, set to release on January 17, 2025, begins with Diaz’s character, Emily, and Foxx’s Matt, who are forced to use their old spy skills to fight off a gang of motorcyclists targeting them.
With their kids caught in the crossfire, they must come clean about their secret agent lives and enlist the help of Emily’s mother, played by Glenn Close, who proves to be quite handy with a machine gun.
The couple’s seemingly ordinary suburban life, complete with pickleball leagues and sourdough baking, is turned upside down as their kids discover their hidden past.
The film also stars Kyle Chandler, Andrew Scott, and Jamie Demetriou. It marks Diaz’s first film since 2014’s Annie, and her return to acting has sparked excitement for future projects, including a role in the black comedy Outcome and a return as Princess Fiona in the next Shrek movie.
For Foxx, this film is his first release after recovering from a serious stroke in 2024. He’s also set to star in Tin Soldier alongside Robert De Niro and Scott Eastwood.
Directed by Seth Gordon (Four Christmases), Back in Action promises to be a thrilling, humorous ride, blending action with family dynamics. Fans can catch the action-packed film when it premieres on Netflix on January 17, 2025.
