Apple is bringing new features to iOS 18 beyond its focus on Apple Intelligence. These updates, expected in iOS 18.3 and iOS 18.4, will introduce enhanced customization and smarter integrations.

One major change is for iPhone and iPad users in the EU. Starting in spring 2025, they will be able to set default navigation and translation apps.

This means apps like Google Maps, Waze, Google Translate, or Microsoft Translator can replace Apple Maps and Translate as the default choices. These settings will appear in the Default Apps section in the Settings app, introduced in iOS 18.2.

In the U.S., iPhone users will soon be able to see their PayPal balance directly in Apple Wallet when using a PayPal debit card.

Apple announced this feature will launch sometime in 2025, making it likely to arrive in a future iOS 18 update.

Another exciting feature is robot vacuum support in the Home app. This update will allow users to control robot vacuums with Siri commands or add them to home automations.

Functions like power control, cleaning modes, and charge status will be integrated into the app. References to this feature have appeared in iOS 18.3 beta code, and the update is expected to roll out in late January.

These features reflect Apple’s effort to offer more flexibility and smarter tools to its users, making iOS 18 even more versatile.
