The Agents of Sabotage update, released on December 10, 2024, is the latest major addition to GTA Online. However, players are already looking forward to the next big update, expected sometime in 2025, possibly in the summer.
This update could also be the last before the release of Grand Theft Auto 6 in Fall 2025. While Rockstar Games hasn’t revealed any specifics yet, here are five things we’d love to see in the next update.
1. A New Major Heist
Heists are a central part of GTA Online, and while there have been some exciting additions over the years, the last major heist — The Cayo Perico Heist — was released in December 2020.
Since then, Rockstar has introduced heist-like missions, but they don’t offer the same scale or payout. A new, large-scale heist would be a perfect addition to the 2025 update, bringing back the thrill and high rewards players love.
2. More Fast Travel Points
The Darnell Bros Garment Factory, introduced in Agents of Sabotage, allows players to fast travel to specific points in Los Santos, offering a more convenient way to navigate the map.
This feature has proven useful, and it would be great to see Rockstar expand on it by adding more fast travel points in the next update, enhancing gameplay efficiency.
3. More Returning Cars
In the San Andreas Mercenaries update of 2023, Rockstar removed nearly 200 cars from in-game websites, sparking disappointment among fans.
While some of these cars were reintroduced with Agents of Sabotage, many players still want more of them back. The 2025 update could address this by re-adding even more fan-favorite vehicles, helping to restore some of the variety lost.
4. A Teaser for Grand Theft Auto 6
With Grand Theft Auto 6 slated for a Fall 2025 release, the excitement surrounding the game is at an all-time high. The next major GTA Online update could serve as the perfect opportunity for Rockstar to drop a subtle teaser for GTA 6. Even a small nod to the new game’s setting or characters would generate massive buzz and anticipation among players.
5. Michael De Santa’s Return
Out of the three protagonists from GTA 5, Michael De Santa is the only one who hasn’t made an appearance in GTA Online. Fans have long hoped for his inclusion, and with GTA 6 on the horizon, the next update could be the perfect time for Michael to make his debut in the multiplayer world. His return could offer exciting new missions or interactions, similar to what Franklin Clinton received with the Celebrity Solutions Agency.
While nothing is confirmed yet for the 2025 GTA Online update, these five features would make for an exciting addition to the game.
Whether it’s a new heist, more fast travel points, returning cars, a teaser for GTA 6, or the return of Michael De Santa, there’s plenty of potential for Rockstar to keep the GTA Online community engaged as we approach the next chapter in the Grand Theft Auto series.
