Tom Cruise is gearing up for a new challenge after wrapping up the Mission: Impossible series. His next project, Broadsword, is a World War II epic directed by longtime collaborator Christopher McQuarrie.
Filming begins in July 2025, just two months after Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning hits cinemas on May 23, 2025.
This marks the ninth collaboration between Cruise and McQuarrie, who have previously worked on Mission: Impossible – Fallout, Top Gun: Maverick, and Edge of Tomorrow.
Set during World War II, Broadsword follows a Marine sergeant who survives a crash in France. Stranded behind enemy lines, he teams up with a young girl to navigate dangerous terrain and complete his mission. The story brings Cruise back to war dramas, reminiscent of his role in Valkyrie.
McQuarrie hinted at this project last year, calling it a “gnarly movie” that fans have been waiting for.
He co-wrote the script with Erik Jendresen, his collaborator on Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning.
With Cruise and McQuarrie’s track record of box office hits and thrilling stunts, Broadsword promises to be another blockbuster.
Fans can first catch Cruise’s farewell as Ethan Hunt in Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning in May 2025.
