Tom Cruise is set to star in a sequel to the 1990 hit film Days of Thunder, with industry insiders confirming the project is underway. The announcement follows the massive global success of Top Gun: Maverick, which earned nearly $1.5 billion at the box office and became one of the highest-grossing films of 2022.

Jerry Bruckheimer, co-producer of Days of Thunder and Top Gun: Maverick, described the upcoming sequel as “really exciting” and highlighted advances in technology that will bring fresh ways to experience the story. He praised Cruise’s creativity and involvement in shaping the film.

Tom Cruise himself hinted at multiple projects in development during a recent interview, mentioning discussions around Days of Thunder alongside Top Gun sequels.

Jeff Gordon, former NASCAR driver and current Hendrick Motorsports chairman, expressed strong support for the sequel. He noted that the original Days of Thunder played a significant role in popularizing NASCAR in the 1990s and believes a new film could have a similar impact.

The original Days of Thunder was a commercial success, grossing $150 million worldwide against a $60 million budget. Fans and industry figures alike are eager to see how the sequel will capture the spirit of the first film and appeal to new audiences.
