Netflix has announced that “The Platform 2,” the highly anticipated sequel to the 2019 Spanish thriller, will debut on the streaming platform on October 4, 2024. The film, currently in production in Bilbao, Spain, continues the story of the controversial vertical prison system introduced in the original.
Directed by Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia, who helmed the first installment, the sequel promises to explore new dimensions of the prison’s brutal feeding system. The official synopsis hints at the emergence of a mysterious leader who will challenge the established order, leading to a intense confrontation.
The cast includes newcomers Milena Smit, Hovik Keuchkerian, Natalia Tena, and Óscar Jaenada. It remains unclear if Iván Massagué and Zorion Eguileor will reprise their roles from the original film.
Netflix has already released the first trailer and two stills from the production, building anticipation among fans. The original film, which ranked fifth in Netflix’s non-English film category with 82.8 million views, set high expectations for this sequel.
As the release date approaches, viewers can look forward to another gripping exploration of survival and society within the unique confines of “The Platform’s” vertical prison.
