Apple Original Films has scored its biggest movie launch ever with The Gorge, the latest action thriller starring Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy.
The film, directed by Scott Derrickson, has set a new record on Apple TV+, surpassing previous hits and boosting viewership by 80% over its debut weekend.
Apple has not shared specific numbers, but the success of The Gorge has outperformed Wolfs, the George Clooney and Brad Pitt thriller that was previously the platform’s biggest film release.
The Gorge follows two elite operatives who work as guardians of a mysterious gorge that hides a dangerous secret. Over time, their long-distance mission turns into romance, leading them to face the truth about the strange creatures below.
Matt Dentler, head of Apple Original Films, praised the film’s success, calling it an “unforgettably original and inventive world” created by Derrickson. He also credited Skydance, the production studio behind the movie, for delivering an engaging and genre-blending experience for audiences worldwide.
The film is written by Zach Dean and produced by David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, and others. Miles Teller also serves as an executive producer.
With The Gorge driving huge numbers for Apple TV+, it marks another major success for the streamer, further establishing it as a serious player in original films.
