The trailer for James Gunn’s Superman has officially become the most viewed and talked-about trailer in the history of both DC and Warner Bros.
The filmmaker shared the milestone on social media, revealing that the trailer amassed over 250 million views and generated a million social posts since its release on December 19, 2024.
“This is because of all of you: thank you!” Gunn posted on X (formerly Twitter). “We’re incredibly grateful and, most of all, excited to share this movie with you in July. Happy Holidays!”
A Movie About Kindness
Starring David Corenswet as Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, the movie focuses on themes of kindness and humanity.
Gunn described it as “a movie about being good” and highlighted its focus on the goodness of people, despite ideological divides.
The cast also features Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, María Gabriela de Faría as The Engineer, and appearances by Skyler Gisondo, Anthony Carrigan, and Nathan Fillion. Superman is set to release on July 11, 2025.
Influences and Vision
Gunn revealed that his take on Superman draws inspiration from various sources, including All-Star Superman, the Silver Age comics, and past DC media. However, he emphasized that the film is not just a rehash of previous Superman adaptations.
Filming wrapped in July, but Gunn recently completed a few pickup shots to enhance the final product.
Fans are eagerly awaiting the release, and with such an overwhelming response to the trailer, Superman is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated films of 2025.
