Warner Bros/DC Studios’ Superman continues its strong box office performance, soaring past $200 million in domestic earnings during its second weekend. The film is expected to reach around $55 million this weekend, playing in over 4,200 theaters, despite a 71% drop on Friday compared to its opening day.

Superman is pacing well against other recent superhero hits, slightly ahead of Matt Reeves’ The Batman and James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 during their opening weeks. Worldwide, the film is on track to earn approximately $400 million by Sunday.

In third place at the box office battle is Columbia Pictures’ reboot of I Know What You Did Last Summer, which earned nearly $6 million on Friday and is projected to make between $13 million and $15 million over the weekend at more than 3,200 locations.

The horror film faces competition from Paramount Animation’s Smurfs, which earned $4 million on Friday with an expected $12 million weekend from 3,500 theaters. The Smurfs franchise typically performs well internationally and benefits from merchandise sales managed by ViacomCBS Consumer Products.

Other notable films include Universal’s Jurassic World Rebirth, holding steady in its third weekend with $21.5 million, and Apple Original Films’ F1, bringing in $2.6 million on its fourth Friday with a $9.4 million three-day total and a running domestic cume of $153.4 million.

A24’s Eddington, premiering at Cannes, is playing in over 2,100 theaters with an estimated weekend total of $4.5 million, underperforming compared to Wes Anderson’s The Phoenician Scheme.
