The Duffer Brothers, creators of Stranger Things, are moving from the eerie, Upside Down world of Hawkins, Indiana, to a new project set in the New Mexico desert.
Their upcoming show, The Boroughs, was teased during Netflix’s Next on Netflix 2025 event, generating excitement among fans.
A New Kind of Misfit Hero
While The Boroughs shares similarities with Stranger Things, especially its supernatural theme, the setting and characters are unique.
As Matt Duffer explains, “The Boroughs probably shares the most DNA with Stranger Things because it’s about a group of misfits who fight an otherworldly evil. But this time, our misfits are a little older. They ride golf carts, not bikes.”
The show follows a group of unlikely heroes in a retirement community in New Mexico, where they must defend their time – the one thing they don’t have – from an otherworldly threat.
Star-Studded Cast
The show boasts a talented cast with stars like Alfred Molina (Spider-Man: No Way Home), Geena Davis (Beetlejuice), Alfre Woodard (Luke Cage), and Bill Pullman (Independence Day), among others. The Duffer Brothers are excited about the show’s mix of fun, scares, and emotional depth.
Other Upcoming Projects
Besides The Boroughs, the Duffer Brothers are also working on Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, a wedding-themed horror series about the dread and chaos surrounding a wedding.
The show is produced by Haley Z. Boston, known for her work on Brand New Cherry Flavor.
Additionally, Upside Down Pictures, the Duffer Brothers’ production company, is behind several exciting projects, including:
- A live-action adaptation of Death Note
