Sabrina Carpenter’s holiday special, A Nonsense Christmas, premiered on Netflix on December 6, and it’s already giving fans a festive treat. In the show, the 25-year-old pop sensation invited special guest Chappell Roan for a charming duet of Wham!’s iconic 1984 hit, Last Christmas.
The performance, set in a fun post-party atmosphere with empty wine bottles and red cups scattered across the floor, captured the cozy, chaotic spirit of the holiday season.
Carpenter and Roan, reading the lyrics karaoke-style on a vintage TV, delivered a nostalgic take on the classic. Carpenter donned a velvety green dress, while Roan rocked a cozy winter coat, making the performance both festive and stylish.
Last Christmas—written and produced by George Michael—has remained a holiday favorite, reaching No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 2023, keeping its legacy alive.
In addition to Last Christmas, Carpenter’s first-ever Christmas TV special featured a slew of surprise guests, including Tyla for a rendition of This Christmas, Shania Twain for a duet of Santa Baby, and Kali Uchis, who joined Carpenter for I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus.
The special blended musical performances with comedic cameos, giving fans a lighthearted, holiday-infused variety show.
The Espresso singer shared her excitement about the special, saying, “The holidays have always been so special to me. I am excited to bring my take to a classic holiday variety show — infusing my love of music and comedy to make something that is uniquely me.” Carpenter also showcased songs from her 2023 seasonal EP, Fruitcake.
Ahead of the special, Carpenter released a playful remix of her fan-favorite track Nonsense, adding a festive twist to the song’s flirty lyrics.
The remix features a cheeky holiday theme, with Carpenter singing, “Think I only want you under my mistletoe, I might change your contact to ‘Has a huge North Pole’.” The track adds an extra layer of fun to her already festive celebration.
