Lionel Messi has received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the United States. President Joe Biden awarded this prestigious medal during a ceremony at the White House on January 4, 2025.
Messi was one of 19 honorees recognized for their significant contributions to society. The Presidential Medal of Freedom honors individuals who have contributed to the prosperity, values, or security of the United States and world peace.
Other notable recipients included Hillary Clinton, Bono, and Denzel Washington. The White House stated that these individuals are leaders who have made America and the world a better place.
Messi could not attend the ceremony due to a scheduling conflict. He expressed his gratitude through a letter to the White House, stating that he felt deeply honored to receive such recognition.
