One Piece Season 2: Everything We Know So Far

Netflix One Piece Live Action

After a successful first season, the live-action adaptation of the beloved anime and manga series One Piece has been renewed for a second season on Netflix.

The first season covered a significant amount of material, adapting around 100 chapters of the manga in just 8 episodes. For the second season, it’s likely the show will continue the story by adapting the Alabasta Saga.

This arc will see the Straw Hat Pirates make their way to the Grand Line, where they’ll meet Princess Vivi and get caught up in the conflict between her kingdom of Arabasta and the villainous Baroque Works organization led by the Shichibukai (Seven Warlords of the Sea) member Crocodile. Along the way, the crew will also recruit the adorable reindeer doctor Tony Tony Chopper to join their ranks.

While Netflix has not yet confirmed the specific story details for Season 2, the showrunners have expressed ambitious plans for the series. Producer Marty Adelstein stated they “have hopes for 12 seasons”, as there is an abundance of source material to draw from, with over 1,080 chapters in the One Piece manga currently.

The core cast, including IƱaki Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Roronoa Zoro, and Emily Rudd as Nami, are all expected to return. There’s also potential for new fan-favorite characters like Nico Robin and Crocodile to be introduced.

Notably, acclaimed actress Jamie Lee Curtis, a self-proclaimed One Piece superfan, has expressed interest in playing the role of Dr. Kureha, Chopper’s mentor. The showrunners have acknowledged this and are reportedly writing the character with Curtis in mind.

While the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike has temporarily halted production, the scripts for Season 2 are reportedly already completed. Once the strike is resolved, fans can look forward to the Straw Hats setting sail once again on their grand adventure towards the One Piece treasure.
