One Battle After Another

Paul Thomas Anderson’s black comedy action thriller, One Battle After Another, has made history at the 32nd Actor Awards (formerly the Screen Actors Guild Awards), earning seven nominations—the most ever for a single film in the ceremony’s 32-year history.

The Warner Bros. release, starring Leonardo DiCaprio as a washed-up revolutionary hiding from his past, dominated the announcements on January 7, 2026, surpassing the previous record of five nominations held by films such as Shakespeare in Love, Chicago, Doubt, Everything Everywhere All at Once, and last year’s Wicked.

Nominations Across Major Categories

One Battle After Another received nods in nearly every key acting category, as well as recognition for its stunt ensemble:

  • Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture
  • Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading RoleLeonardo DiCaprio
  • Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role – Chase Infiniti
  • Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role – Benicio del Toro
  • Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role – Sean Penn
  • Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role – Teyana Taylor
  • Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture

Breakout star Chase Infiniti, in her feature film debut as DiCaprio’s onscreen daughter Willa, earned a lead actress nod, while veterans Benicio del Toro, Sean Penn, and Teyana Taylor were recognized in the supporting categories. The stunt ensemble was praised for high-octane action sequences, including car chases and shootouts.

Critical Acclaim and Awards Season Momentum

Loosely inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s Vineland, the film has been a front-runner this awards season, sweeping major critics’ groups and leading Golden Globe nominations with nine. Despite a challenging box office performance—grossing over $200 million against a hefty budget—the film has been universally praised for its performances, direction, and blend of humor, thrills, and political commentary.

Other films trailing behind include Ryan Coogler’s Sinners with five nominations, and Frankenstein, Hamnet, and Marty Supreme with three each. All five films are nominated for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, the SAG equivalent of Best Picture and a strong predictor for the Oscars.

Looking Ahead

The Actor Awards will stream live on Netflix on March 1, 2026, with Oscar nominations set for January 22. Given that actors form the largest voting branch of the Academy, One Battle After Another’s sweeping nomination haul positions it as a formidable contender for the upcoming awards season.
