Olivia Hussey Eisley, famed for her role as Juliet Capulet in the 1968 film Romeo and Juliet, has passed away at the age of 73.

The news was confirmed through a post on her Instagram, where her family shared that she died peacefully at home on December 27, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.

Hussey Eisley, a British-Argentine actress, gained international fame for her portrayal of Juliet in Franco Zeffirelli’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic.

Her performance earned her a Golden Globe. The film was controversial due to scenes showing the young actors, who were minors at the time, in the nude.

In 2022, Hussey Eisley and co-star Leonard Whiting filed a lawsuit against Paramount Studios, claiming they were pressured into the scenes. The lawsuit was dismissed in 2023.

Beyond Romeo and Juliet, Hussey Eisley had a varied career, starring in the 1974 horror classic Black Christmas and the 1978 adaptation of Death on the Nile.

She later appeared in Psycho IV: The Beginning and Stephen King’s It miniseries, among other roles.

Born on April 17, 1951, in Buenos Aires, Hussey Eisley is remembered for her passion for the arts, spirituality, and kindness toward animals.

She leaves behind her children, Alex, Max, and India, her husband of 35 years, David Glen Eisley, and her grandson, Greyson.

Her family’s statement expressed gratitude for the support and requested privacy as they mourn the loss of a beloved soul.
