Nintendo has officially confirmed the prices for the Switch 2 Edition upgrade packs for Kirby and the Forgotten Land and Super Mario Party Jamboree, with details now available on the UK eShop. For players who already own these games on the original Switch, the upgrade will cost £16.99 / €19.99.
This is significantly more expensive than the previous £7.99 / €9.99 upgrade for Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, which are available for free to those with a Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack subscription.
As of now, Nintendo has not provided an official statement regarding North American prices, but retailer Best Buy lists both the Kirby and Mario Party upgrade packs at $19.99, which aligns with the European prices.
The price difference is notable, especially given that the Zelda upgrades can be accessed for free under specific conditions, unlike Kirby and Mario Party, where players will need to pay for the new content or buy the Switch 2 Edition outright.
These price increases reflect the substantial additional content included in both the Switch 2 Edition upgrades. Kirby and the Forgotten Land now includes the new “Star Crossed World” expansion, with added challenges and levels.
Meanwhile, Super Mario Party Jamboree benefits from the “Jamboree TV” addition, which introduces new minigames and features that utilize the Switch 2’s camera and mic.
Despite the added content, the price hike has sparked discussions, particularly given Nintendo’s previous reputation for offering lower-cost upgrades, such as those for the Zelda games.
With mounting scrutiny over its pricing strategies, Nintendo has explained that it determines game prices on a case-by-case basis, considering factors such as development time and gameplay experience when setting the retail price.
