Nintendo has officially revealed the lead cast for its upcoming live-action film adaptation of The Legend of Zelda. English actress Bo Bragason will play Princess Zelda, while British actor Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will take on the role of Link.

Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto made the announcement, confirming that the highly anticipated film is set for release in theaters on May 7, 2027.

“I am very much looking forward to seeing both of them on the big screen,” said Miyamoto during the announcement.

Bo Bragason is known for her performances in BBC One’s Three Girls (2017), Disney+’s Renegade Nell (2024), and the comedy horror film The Radleys (2024).

Benjamin Evan Ainsworth gained recognition for his role as Miles in Netflix’s The Haunting of Bly Manor (2020), as well as his work in Flora & Ulysses (2021). He also voiced Pinocchio in Disney’s live-action remake and appeared in the CBC series Son of a Critch.

The film will be produced by Nintendo and Arad Productions, with Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad serving as producers. Wes Ball, best known for directing The Maze Runner trilogy and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes (2024), will direct the movie.

The project is co-financed by Nintendo and Sony Pictures Entertainment, with Nintendo contributing over 50% of the production budget. Sony Pictures will handle theatrical distribution.

Nintendo described the film as part of its broader goal to expand its beloved game franchises into new entertainment formats. The company previously found major success with The Super Mario Bros. Movie (2023), which earned $1.36 billion globally, making it one of the highest-grossing animated films of all time.
