Netflix is set to release a documentary about the life of Swedish DJ and producer Avicii, titled Avicii – I’m Tim, on December 31. The film tells the story of Tim Bergling, known worldwide as Avicii, using his own voice and personal archives.
The trailer opens with Avicii performing in front of a massive festival crowd, showcasing his rise to fame. Through narration recorded before his death in 2018, Avicii reflects on his love for music, saying, “I’ve always loved music. I knew that whatever I wanted to do later in life, I wanted to do something creative.”
The documentary features interviews with collaborators like Coldplay’s Chris Martin, DJ David Guetta, and Chic’s Nile Rodgers.
It highlights iconic moments, including the creation of his hit songs “Levels” and “Wake Me Up.” Despite his success, Avicii faced challenges with the pressures of fame, constant touring, and health issues.
Avicii retired from touring at 26 due to health problems and passed away by suicide at 28. In the documentary, he reflects on his struggles, saying, “I was running after some idea of happiness that wasn’t my own. I didn’t like being a persona.”
Directed by Henrik Burman, the film also includes insights from Avicii’s family and friends, offering a deeper look at the man behind the music.
Alongside the documentary, Netflix will stream Avicii’s final performance at Ushuaïa Ibiza in 2016.
