New Moana

Catherine Laga’aia, a 17-year-old from Sydney, Australia, has been cast as the new Moana. Laga’aia is proud of her Pacific Islander heritage, with her grandfather from Fa’aala, Palauli, in Savai’i, Samoa, and her grandmother from Leulumoega Tuai on the main island of ‘Upolu in Samoa. She is honored to represent young girls who look like her and to celebrate Samoa and all Pacific Island peoples.

Returning Cast and Crew

Auli’i Cravalho, the original voice of Moana, will not be returning for the live-action remake but will be involved behind the scenes. Dwayne Johnson, who voiced Maui in the animated film, will reprise his role in the live-action adaptation.
