A$AP Rocky’s lawyer Joe Tacopina says Rihanna did not bring their two young sons to court to win sympathy from the jury. Instead, she wanted the family to be together in case Rocky went to prison.
Rocky faced serious charges that could have put him in prison for 24 years. He was found not guilty on February 18 of assault with a semi-automatic firearm after an incident with former friend A$AP Relli in 2021.
“She brought them to court because that could’ve been the last time he’d seen his kids for a decade or more,” Tacopina explained in a recent interview on The Breakfast Club. “The jury’s not feeling sympathy. They know he has a wife and kids.”
During their court visit, Rihanna told their sons RZA (2½) and Riot (18 months) to “wish Daddy good luck.” After hearing the not guilty verdict, Rocky jumped over the stand to hug his family and thanked the jury for “saving my life.”
Tacopina also joked in another interview that the couple plans to name their next child after him: “They grabbed me and they said, ‘Listen, our next baby is A$AP Joe.'”
Rihanna recently shared in Harper’s Bazaar that she loves seeing Rocky as a father, even though she gets “annoyed” when their sons “live for him more than they live for me.”
