Kanye West has issued a public apology through a full-page advertisement in the Wall Street Journal, addressing years of controversy over antisemitic remarks and offensive symbolism.

In the open letter, paid for by his company Yeezy, Kanye said his behavior stemmed from an undiagnosed brain injury sustained in a 2002 car accident. He explained that the injury affected his frontal lobe and went untreated for more than 20 years.

Kanye said the injury worsened his Bipolar Type‑1 disorder, leading to poor judgment, impulsive behavior, and moments of “disconnected” thinking. He said the condition was only properly diagnosed in 2023.

Addressing the Jewish community, Kanye expressed regret and said he was “deeply mortified” by his past actions. He emphasized that he is not antisemitic and denounced the symbols he had used, including the swastika.

He also apologized to the Black community, calling it the foundation of his identity and saying he was sorry for letting people down.

Kanye revealed that he experienced a severe manic episode in early 2025 that caused significant personal challenges. He credited his wife with encouraging him to seek help after “hitting rock bottom.”

The artist said he has since followed a structured treatment plan including medication, therapy, and lifestyle changes. He is now refocusing on creative work in music and design.

The letter concludes with Kanye asking for patience and understanding rather than immediate forgiveness, marking a public shift toward accountability and recovery.
