James Gunn has responded to Zack Snyder fans who are planning to sabotage his upcoming Superman movie. Some Snyder fans have been calling for review bombing, online spoilers, and fake ticket reservations to harm the film’s box office success.
The online post, shared on Reddit, urged fans to “fight for SnyderVerse” when Superman releases on July 11. The post also claimed, “Gunn fired the first shot and killed the SnyderVerse.”
Gunn, who is leading the new DC Universe alongside Peter Safran, replied calmly on Threads. “I think we will survive,” Gunn said. “I’m not sure the eight people that listen to that guy are going to impact the course of events.”
Gunn later told Rolling Stone that he doesn’t mind having critics. “It’s all right to have an opposing force every once in a while,” he said. Gunn pointed out that controversy is normal, even for popular films. “Every time something comes out, there’s going to be some controversy.”
The Superman movie stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent, stepping into the role after Henry Cavill played the hero during Snyder’s run. Gunn revealed that he even consulted Zack Snyder on the costume design, including whether or not to bring back Superman’s red trunks.
Meanwhile, moderators of the SnyderCut subreddit have distanced themselves from the sabotage plan. They removed the Reddit post and clarified that they do not support dishonesty or manipulation. “We support everyone’s right to choose not to see a movie,” they said. “But we do not support any effort to stop others from seeing it.”
Superman hits theaters July 11, 2025, from Warner Bros.
