The price of video games is going up, and Grand Theft Auto 6 is expected to follow this trend. Although Rockstar Games has not confirmed it yet, GTA 6 will most likely cost at least $80 when it launches. Some experts believe the price could go even higher.
Both Nintendo and Xbox have already announced $80 price tags for some of their upcoming titles. It is expected that Sony will also raise prices soon. This signals a major shift in the gaming industry, where $80 may become the new standard price for AAA games.
Rising development costs, global inflation, and increasing demand for high-end games are driving the price hike. GTA 6 is rumored to be one of the most expensive video games ever made, even before marketing costs are added. A Swedish retailer has already listed the game for over $100, although this may be a placeholder.
While $100 used to be the price of special editions with extra content, GTA 6’s base version may hit that mark. If this happens, deluxe editions could reach as high as $150 to $200.
Rockstar has now confirmed that GTA 6 will not release in Fall 2025 as expected. The game has been delayed to May 2026. Fans may get more details, including pricing and pre-orders, during Take-Two Interactive’s earnings call on May 15, 2025.
Despite the higher cost, GTA 6 is expected to break sales records. The franchise’s strong following and years of anticipation could make it one of the most successful game launches of all time.
