GTA 4 Remaster Coming Soon? Rockstar Insider Teases Possible Release

Fans of Grand Theft Auto IV have been waiting for years for a remaster, and it looks like it may finally be coming. According to a Rockstar Games insider, a GTA 4 remaster could be released as early as this year. The delay of GTA VI to 2026 may have pushed the release of this long-awaited remaster forward.

Tez2, a community member known for sharing Rockstar-related news, revealed on Sunday that one of his sources hinted at a GTA 4 port to modern consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. With the delay of GTA VI, this remaster might now be released sooner than expected.

Liberty City Mod Taken Down Sparks Speculation

In recent months, Rockstar’s removal of the popular Liberty City Preservation Project mod fueled further speculation about a GTA IV remaster. Tez2 believes this could be connected to the development of the remaster. Similar actions occurred before the release of the GTA Trilogy remasters, adding weight to the theory.

Tez2 had previously mentioned that GTA IV and Red Dead Redemption were on the table for remasters. Though these projects were initially delayed, the continued push for GTA VI has opened the door for GTA IV to be re-released earlier.

Max Payne 3 Remaster in the Works?

Tez2 also suggested that Rockstar had plans to remaster Max Payne 3 for modern consoles. If this happens, fans could see a port alongside a potential Max Payne 1 & 2 remake. The remaster of Max Payne 3 might release around the same time, possibly as part of a bundle or a Definitive Edition.

Why a GTA IV Remaster Makes Sense

While GTA IV can be played on newer Xbox consoles through backward compatibility, the game is not available on PS5 or PS4. A proper remaster, running at 60 FPS on all platforms, would give fans a much-needed chance to revisit Liberty City. Additionally, a smoother PC version would be a welcome improvement.

With the success of recent re-releases like Red Dead Redemption, a GTA IV remaster handled by a skilled team could be a hit. Fans are eager for a polished version of this classic game, especially as they wait for GTA VI.
