GoT Spin-off, A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms: Casts, Release Date & More

Westeros has more tales to tell! A brand new Game of Thrones spin-off series titled A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is headed our way.

While House of the Dragon explored the controversial Targaryen civil war, this prequel will take us even further back – a full century before the events of the original Game of Thrones series.

Get ready to venture into an age when dragons still soared over the Seven Kingdoms and the Targaryens sat firmly on the Iron Throne. The official premise is as follows:

A century before Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros…a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg. Great destinies, powerful foes and dangerous exploits await these improbable friends.”

A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms – The Cast

Leading the adventure are newcomers Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan and Dexter Sol Ansell as Egg. Claffey previously appeared in Vikings: Valhalla, while Ansell played Young Coriolanus Snow in The Hunger Games prequel. The rest of the cast remains under wraps for now.

A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms – Episode Count

Rather than an epic spanning multiple books like Game of Thrones, this series will adapt the slimmer “Dunk and Egg” novellas by George R.R. Martin. As such, the first season will be a compact 6 episodes, shorter than Thrones and Dragon’s 10-episode debuts.

A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms – Release Date

No premiere date has been set yet, but A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is expected to arrive in 2025 on HBO and HBO Max. Black Mirror’s Owen Harris has been tapped to exec produce and direct the first three installments, helping establish the show’s distinct vision.

A New Directon

While Game of Thrones was known for its massive scope, this prequel aims to be a more grounded, character-driven story following the travels of the knight Ser Duncan and his squire during Targaryen rule.

Whether it can recapture the magic of the original remains to be seen, but for fans, any return to the world of Westeros is a welcome one. Stakes will surely be high as further details on this exciting new chapter emerge.
