A new Game of Thrones spin-off series is coming to HBO in 2025, set a century before the events of the original show.

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will adapt George R.R. Martin’s Tales of Dunk and Egg novellas, following the adventures of Ser Duncan the Tall and his squire Egg as they wander Westeros during the Targaryen dynasty’s rule.

Cast

The main cast includes:

  • Peter Claffey as Ser Duncan the Tall, a hedge knight of humble origins
  • Dexter Sol Ansell as Prince Aegon “Egg” Targaryen, Dunk’s squire who will one day become King Aegon V
  • Finn Bennett as Prince Aerion “Brightflame” Targaryen, Egg’s older brother
  • Bertie Carvel as Prince Baelor “Breakspear” Targaryen, the heir to the Iron Throne
  • Tanzyn Crawford as Tanselle, a Dornish puppeteer
  • Daniel Ings as Ser Lyonel Baratheon, the “Laughing Storm”
  • Sam Spruell as Prince Maekar Targaryen, Egg’s father

Release Date and Episodes

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will consist of six episodes in its first season, premiering on HBO and Max in 2025. An exact release date has not been announced yet.

The series will be executive produced by George R.R. Martin, who wrote the original novellas. Filming began in June 2024 in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

With House of the Dragon ending its second season, this new spin-off will continue expanding the Game of Thrones universe for fans eager to return to the world of Westeros
