Ice Cube has confirmed that a fourth installment in the “Friday” franchise, titled “Last Friday”, is in development at Warner Bros. after years of delays.
The original 1995 film starred Ice Cube and Chris Tucker as unemployed friends who get into trouble with a local drug dealer.Ice Cube revealed that the project has “finally got some traction” under the new leadership at Warner Bros., particularly with Mike De Luca who previously worked with Ice Cube on the first “Friday” movie.ย
However, Ice Cube emphasizes that “Last Friday” has to be “done right” out of respect for original cast members like John Witherspoon and Tiny Lister Jr. who have since passed away.
While a release date is not yet set, Ice Cube is hopeful that with Warner Bros. now on board, the long-awaited sequel can finally move forward into production.ย Two scripts have been written over the course of 8-9 years, with Ice Cube turning in a draft in late 2012 that included a role for Chris Tucker, who has been reluctant to return.
The fourth “Friday” film will follow the events of the previous three movies – “Friday” (1995), “Next Friday” (2000), and “Friday After Next” (2002).
Fans eagerly anticipating the next installment in the beloved stoner comedy franchise will have to stay tuned for further updates on the development of “Last Friday” at Warner Bros.
