Ed Sheeran made a surprise debut at Coachella on Saturday and left the Mojave tent crowd in awe with nothing but his voice, a guitar, a keyboard, and a looping station.

Though scheduled early in the afternoon, fans packed the venue long before his set began. The response made it hard to believe this was Sheeran’s first time performing at the iconic festival.

Sheeran delivered an hour-long solo performance, building each track live in front of the crowd. His signature looping style allowed him to layer guitar, vocals, and beats in real time, bringing his songs to life piece by piece. He opened with “Castle on the Hill,” immediately setting the tone with powerful energy.

His setlist included fan favorites like “Thinking Out Loud,” “Photograph,” “Don’t,” and “Perfect.” The crowd sang along word for word, especially during the romantic ballads. When Sheeran performed “Perfect,” the emotion in the tent was undeniable.

He also celebrated the 15th anniversary of his breakthrough song, “The A Team,” and shared how he started out playing pubs in London at 18, just hoping to get noticed. That dream has clearly come true, as he now plays to global festival crowds.

One of the highlights came when he smoothly blended “Don’t” with “No Diggity” by Blackstreet and Dr. Dre, getting the crowd jumping and cheering. He also performed his new single “Azizam,” a Persian-inspired song from his upcoming album Play.

Although he stumbled on the loop during his first attempt, the honest moment only made the crowd love him more.

Ed Sheeran’s Coachella set was a powerful reminder of raw talent. With no special effects or backup performers, just his voice and skill, he created one of the festival’s most memorable performances. Fans are already calling for him to return — next time, on a bigger stage.
