Set over 10,000 years before Paul Atreides’ story, the series follows Valya and Tula Harkonnen as they rebuild their family’s reputation and lay the foundations for the Bene Gesserit order.
Played by Emily Watson and Olivia Williams, the sisters navigate betrayal, rebellion, and intrigue, with Valya also becoming the first human to wield “the voice.”
Unlike most adaptations, Prophecy moves beyond Arrakis to showcase new locations, from snow-covered tundras to imperial coasts. Nightmarish visions of sandworms are the only link to the desert planet so far.
The series departs from the novels in several ways. It rebrands the “Butlerian Jihad” as “the great machine wars” and introduces thinking machines as active elements in the story. Valya’s unique powers are attributed to evolution, adding depth to her character.
