DC Studios has officially chosen screenwriter Ana Nogueira to write the script for its upcoming Wonder Woman reboot. The decision comes as part of DC’s wider plan to refresh its superhero universe.
Nogueira, known for her work on the upcoming Supergirl film, will now take on one of DC’s most iconic characters. She is also currently writing a live-action Teen Titans project for the studio. Her Supergirl movie, directed by Craig Gillespie and starring House of the Dragon actress Milly Alcock, is scheduled for release on June 26, 2026.
Wonder Woman has become a key priority for DC Studios. Co-chief James Gunn previously confirmed that a new Wonder Woman film was in the works, and recent reports suggest the project is moving ahead quickly. The studio is also developing Paradise Island, a television series set on Wonder Woman’s mythical home of Themyscira, though progress on that series is reported to be slow.
Ana Nogueira started her career as an actress, with roles in The Michael J. Fox Show, The Vampire Diaries, and the crime drama Hightown. Her upcoming Supergirl film is based on the graphic novel Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King.
The last actress to play Wonder Woman on the big screen was Gal Gadot. She starred in 2017’s Wonder Woman, directed by Patty Jenkins, which earned $822 million worldwide. The film helped break the industry’s assumption that audiences were not interested in female-led superhero movies. Gadot returned for Wonder Woman 1984 in 2020, as well as appearances in Justice League (2017), Zack Snyder’s Justice League (2021), and The Flash (2023).
Since James Gunn and Peter Safran took control of DC Studios, they have rebooted much of the DC Universe. Their first projects included the animated series Creature Commandos and the live-action film Superman, which has made $406.8 million globally since its July 11 release. Milly Alcock’s Supergirl also made a cameo in Superman.
