Fans of The Amazing World of Gumball can rejoice: the beloved animated series is making its long-awaited return with new episodes later this year.
After concluding its original six-season run in 2019 and releasing two specials in 2021, the series had been dormant until the announcement of a new project.
Initially rumored to be a reboot, it has since been confirmed that the project is a continuation—Season 7 of the original series.
According to Sean Henry, Vice President of International Content Partnerships and Strategy at Warner Bros. Discovery, The Amazing World of Gumball Season 7 will debut new episodes in 2025.
While an exact release date hasn’t been announced, fans can look forward to the return of Gumball, Darwin, and the rest of the Elmore crew in the near future.
This confirmation aligns with Warner Bros. Discovery’s broader strategy to compete with platforms like YouTube by emphasizing content that appeals to both children and adults.
During the Annecy International Animation Film Festival, it was revealed that Season 7 will begin with an episode titled “The Burger,” in which Gumball and Darwin attempt to eat healthier.
The new season will also pick up from the dramatic cliffhanger at the end of Season 6, which reintroduced Gumball’s nemesis, Rob, and hinted at further exploration of the mysterious Void.
The mix of humor, emotional depth, and surreal storytelling that made the original series a hit is expected to continue, delighting both longtime fans and new viewers.
The Gumball movie, announced alongside Season 7, was rumored to have been canceled. However, series creator Ben Bocquelet recently clarified that the project is still alive but undergoing changes.
“It is not dead […] we still have a script I’m really working [on]. We still kind of want to do it. […] It’s interesting because with time, I’m now looking at the movie we were trying to make back then differently. […] It’s a good thing, in a sense, but also bad, that I get to revise the story and have a new take on it.”
While no release date for the film has been announced, Bocquelet’s comments suggest it remains a passion project that could eventually come to fruition.
The return of The Amazing World of Gumball is part of a larger revival trend for Cartoon Network and Warner Bros. Discovery, which also includes projects tied to other beloved franchises like Adventure Time and Regular Show.
As the animation landscape evolves, Gumball is poised to serve as a cornerstone for Cartoon Network’s efforts to recapture the magic of its 2010s heyday while appealing to a new generation of viewers.
