The New York Knicks won the NBA Championship on Saturday night. The team defeated the San Antonio Spurs 94-90 in Game 5. This victory brought the championship trophy to New York City for the first time in 53 years.
Fans across all five boroughs flooded the streets to celebrate. Among the excited fans were hip-hop icons Cardi B, 50 Cent, and A$AP Rocky.
Cardi B watched the final moments of the game on her phone while in bed. When the Knicks won, she ran through her house in excitement. She quickly went onto Instagram to tell her followers that she needed her makeup done immediately so she could join the party outside.
“The streets is calling me,” Cardi B said on her social media page.
Cardi B previously performed during the halftime show earlier in the series at Madison Square Garden. She joked that a previous home loss happened because Donald Trump attended the game, but the team still secured the ultimate victory in the end.
Meanwhile, 50 Cent and A$AP Rocky celebrated the win together. The two proud New Yorkers linked up on Rocky’s tour bus. They shared drinks and cheered as the final seconds ticked away on the clock.
Knicks guard Jalen Brunson sealed the championship victory with a dominant 45-point performance. The historic win erased decades of frustration for the fan base.
The city plans to host a massive championship parade on Thursday. Celebrities and musicians are expected to show up in large numbers to honor the champions.
