Blade Runner 2099

Blade Runner 2099, the highly anticipated Prime Video series, is set to continue the iconic sci-fi franchise.

Here’s everything we know so far about the release date, cast, and more:

Production and Release Date

The series is scheduled to begin filming in April 2024 in Prague and is expected to last through the end of the year. Although there is no specific release date yet, it is likely to premiere with a few episodes before transitioning to a weekly release, following Amazon’s pattern.

Cast

The lead role in Blade Runner 2099 has been confirmed for Michelle Yeoh, who will play Olwen, a Replicant about to expire. The full ensemble cast is still unknown, but it is expected to feature a new set of characters rather than returning from the original films. Hunter Schafer has been cast alongside Yeoh, but details about her role are under wraps.

Plot

The series is set 50 years after the events of Blade Runner 2049 and will explore themes reminiscent of Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, delving into the power dynamics of the Wallace Corporation. The plot details are still under wraps, but it is expected to continue the franchise’s exploration of humanity and artificial intelligence.

Trailer

There is no official trailer for Blade Runner 2099 yet, but it is expected to be released closer to the show’s premiere.

Production Team

The series is being produced by Ridley Scott’s production company, Scott Free, in partnership with Amazon Prime Video. Silka Luisa, known for her work on Shining Girls, is the showrunner for Blade Runner 2099.

Availability

Blade Runner 2099 will be exclusively available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
