WWE star Ava Raine, daughter of actor and wrestler Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, is standing by her social media remarks following the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, even as criticism and threats continue to grow.

Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, was fatally shot on Wednesday while speaking at Utah Valley University. His death led to tributes from political leaders, including US President Donald Trump, who praised Kirk’s influence on young conservatives.

Soon after the news broke, Raine posted on Instagram: “If you want people to have kind words when you pass, you should say kind words when you’re alive.”

Many readers saw the message as a reference to Kirk’s divisive rhetoric. The post quickly drew backlash, with critics calling it insensitive and “classless” during a time of mourning. Some users also sent threats to Raine.

In a follow-up message, Raine wrote, “and I’ll stand behind this. be kind, now more than ever,” making it clear she would not retract her statement. WWE has not issued a comment on the controversy.

Several others have faced consequences for similar remarks about Kirk’s death. A communications coordinator for the Carolina Panthers and a Phoenix Suns beat writer were both fired after mocking the incident online. NFL teams, including the Dallas Cowboys, held moments of silence in Kirk’s honour.

The incident has fueled debate about how public figures should respond to high-profile deaths and the limits of free speech on social media.
