After Andrew Garfield’s emotional return as Spider-Man in Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans have been hoping for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 to finally complete his trilogy.
However, one of the writers behind the series, Alex Kurtzman, recently addressed the status of the script and revealed that it was never written.
Kurtzman, who worked on The Amazing Spider-Man 2, was asked about the potential of the third film during an interview at the Star Trek: Section 31 premiere.
He confirmed that no script was ever developed for The Amazing Spider-Man 3, stating, “We never wrote it. I did 2 and that was it for me.”
While Kurtzman’s comments make it clear that no script was ever finalized, there were discussions about the direction the film could have taken.
The third movie was expected to introduce Shailene Woodley as Mary Jane Watson and explore Peter Parker’s grief after Gwen Stacy’s death, which was touched on in No Way Home.
Although the film was never made, there’s still hope that Garfield could return in future Marvel projects, like Avengers: Secret Wars.
For now, fans are left to imagine what could have been, as the fate of The Amazing Spider-Man 3 remains uncertain.
