Tom Holland has opened up about his challenging experience on the set of The Crowded Room, the Apple TV+ psychological thriller he starred in and executive produced.

The actor, known for his role as Spider-Man, shared that the set was filled with “animosity” and frequent conflicts, which were not related to creativity. The tension forced Holland to examine his sobriety, which he credited for keeping him grounded during the filming process.

Holland, who has been sober since 2022, reflected, “I thought, ‘If I start drinking again now, with all this going on, it’s gonna get worse, right?’”

The actor previously described the series as a grueling experience, admitting that it “absolutely broke me in every way possible.” Despite the struggles, Holland remained dedicated to his role, contributing to every aspect of the production, from scenes to dialogue.

Co-executive producer Alexandra Milchan praised Holland for his commitment, noting that his emotional vulnerability in the series was evident, adding a deep, raw quality to his performance.

The Crowded Room required the cast, including Sasha Lane, Emmy Rossum, and Amanda Seyfried, to explore dark and challenging themes, with Rossum describing the process as going to “incredibly challenging, dark, thrilling places.”

Looking ahead, Holland will star in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, alongside Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, and Charlize Theron.
