Business Insider has reported that famous musicians, including Lil Wayne, Chris Brown, and Alice In Chains, allegedly misused millions from the taxpayer-funded Shuttered Venue Operators Grant.

The grant, signed into law in 2020, was meant to help struggling musicians and venues during COVID-19 shutdowns.

Lil Wayne’s Spending
Lil Wayne reportedly received $8.9 million in grant money. He allegedly spent $1.3 million on private jets, $460,000 on luxury clothing, and $175,000 on a festival promoting his marijuana brand.

He is also accused of using the funds for luxury hotel stays and private flights for individuals unrelated to his tours.

Chris Brown and Others
Chris Brown’s touring company reportedly received $10 million, with $5.1 million going to Brown directly.

He allegedly used $80,000 for a birthday party. Marshmello, another major recipient, reportedly got nearly $10 million in grants.

Alice In Chains’ Controversy
Members of Alice In Chains received $3.4 million. However, the band faced criticism for not providing health benefits to their crew.

A longtime guitar tech and photographer for the band, Scott Dachroeden, reportedly had to rely on a GoFundMe campaign for cancer treatment before his passing.

Widespread Misuse
Business Insider claims that NKSFB, a management firm, helped clients secure at least $207 million in grants while taking $7 million for itself.

The report highlights lavish spending by other musicians, including Steve Aoki, Rae Sremmurd, and Shinedown.

The full exposé sheds light on how funds meant for struggling artists were allegedly misused by wealthy musicians.
