YouTube Launches More Affordable $7.99 Premium Lite Plan

YouTube has introduced a new, lower-cost subscription option called Premium Lite. At $7.99 per month, it offers a more affordable alternative to the $13.99 YouTube Premium plan, but with fewer features.

Premium Lite provides users with an ad-free experience on most videos, excluding music content, Shorts, and browsing. However, it does not include video downloads or background playback, features available on the standard Premium plan.

Premium Lite is currently available in the U.S. as a pilot program, with plans to expand to Germany, Thailand, and Australia soon. YouTube aims to broaden this offering to other regions later this year.

The new plan is likely to appeal to users who don’t need access to music on YouTube Music or the ability to download videos but still want an ad-free experience on most content.

The launch of Premium Lite comes as YouTube celebrates reaching 125 million subscribers across YouTube Music and Premium, including trial users. The company hopes the new tier will help attract more users, especially those who don’t need the full range of features offered by Premium.
