Sega is bringing its Yakuza franchise to mobile devices with Yakuza Wars, a new game that promises a strategic twist on the beloved series.

The game was accidentally revealed through a Facebook page aimed at Chinese players, offering a glimpse of strategic gameplay featuring iconic characters from the franchise.

Yakuza Wars marks Sega’s first officially licensed mobile game in the Yakuza series. It promises a unique gangster experience, where players will take on the role of characters like Kazuma Kiryu, Ichiban Kasuga, and Goro Majima, engaging in strategic battles and crafting their own stories within the Yakuza underworld.

Unlike its action-adventure predecessors, Yakuza Wars will focus on tactical gameplay, likely incorporating turn-based combat to appeal to mobile gamers who prefer strategy titles.

Though details are limited, early reports suggest the game will feature:

  • Strategic Combat: Players will likely engage in tactical, turn-based battles.
  • Character Interaction: Players can team up with familiar characters, each with unique abilities.
  • Narrative Elements: The game will retain the series’ signature storytelling, allowing players to immerse themselves in the rich Yakuza lore.

The trademark for Yakuza Wars was filed in July 2024, and the game is being developed by BBGame, a Chinese mobile game developer known for adapting popular franchises.

This collaboration signals Sega’s push into the growing mobile gaming market, particularly in Asia.

The announcement has sparked excitement among Yakuza fans, who are eager to see how the series’ themes of crime, loyalty, and redemption will translate into a mobile strategy game.

Fans hope the essence of Yakuza—its deep storytelling and quirky side activities—will remain intact in this new format.

Yakuza Wars represents a bold new direction for the iconic franchise, aiming to attract both longtime fans and newcomers. As more details are revealed, anticipation for this fresh take on the series continues to grow.
